I guess you have done some homework, yes the FJR1300 has Auger or snowblower type handlebars. For a more dramatic example, look at BMW's K12LT now those are snowblower bars! But seriously if you can get past that, and into a dealer who has an FJR1300, take it for a ride. This bike stands alone , if you are looking for a bike that you can ride cross country with that has the following benefits over the K12RS. Price 40% less, more power, much lighter, more agile, faster, less costly to repair, and much more comfortable. I guess the bars are not so bad. I owned an FJ1200 in the 90's, it was one of the best bikes I ever owned. good luck. PS. Believe me riding it for 15 minutes will change your mind about all you do not like of the new FJR. the new 04's are in and a dealer near me has one in a crate in New Jersey. Good luck

Hi , to respond to your question. It depends on what characteristics are important to you as a rider, your style of riding, etc. You may want to look at a newly revised bike with lots more power, less weight, shaft driven, capable of long haul riding, comfortable with lots of agility. 2004 FJR1300 by Yamaha. If you can find one at a dealer request a test drive. It is a great performing motorcycle. There are not many around, but you will find more positive articles written than the actual number of bikes out there. Yamaha is reserving these bikes for people who really want them, meaning you need to leave a deposit and special order it. If you are on the east coast i can give you the name of a dealer who just got one in and it is still in a crate.

It's interesting to hear more about the downsides of the bike after the other positive reviews. Thanks for writing it.

I'd like to second the call for some indication of which bikes you think *do* do this well, though. For example, is there a bike so good for long distance work that's not heavy at low speed?
