From an Iron Butt rider...

Pros: Great for touring, many options available in the aftermarket, smoooth.

Cons: Transmission is a little rough, expensive when in the dealer shop, factory seat stinks.

I picked this motorcycle because of my interest in the Iron Butt Association. http://www.ironbutt.com/ The Iron Butt is a group devoted to Long Distance Motorcycle riding. I had ridden 1000 miles in 24 hours on a Yamaha Virago and I knew if I wanted to do more than that, I would need a better bike.



The BMW R1100RT was built with touring in mind. I had my RT for 3 months and then went on a trip of 1600 miles in 24 hours. The bike did it with no trouble and it did not beat my body up doing it.



I cannot recommend this bike enough to anyone looking for a serious riding machine. You can still tool around town in style and then hit the open road for a quick trip to ... Alaska!
