Pros: Rides Smooth. Fit. Finish. Unique Style. Paint Job.
Cons: Price. New Company.
The Bottom Line: I would highly recommend the SuperX as a bike that give you a lot for the price. They stopped making them in 2000.

| coldsteel7's Full Review: 2000 Excelsior-Henderson Super X |
When I placed this article on Epinions on December 4, 1999, I am certain is was the first article available concerning this motorcycle on Epinions. I was an early investor in this company, and found out in August 2000 that my investment was dissolved when the company filed Bankruptcy and was bought out by an entity called E-H Partners. This is definitely a well-built motorcycle that should be around for a long time. There have been issues with these motorcycles, but they come equipped with a "support group" for those brave enough to wrench on it themselves...what follows is the original article I posted on Epinions...
The Excelsior-Henderson SuperX offers an American Made alternative to Harley Davidson. Harley Davidson produces a quality product, but it never hurts to have additional products available to consumers. The SuperX offers a variety of options not currently available from Harley, as well as unique styling.
The SuperX is a motorcycle that you either immediately love or hate. There is not a whole lot of middle ground. The Springer front end with forks that extend through the front fender is unusual. I find the front end to be extremely attractive. Furthermore, the Springer front end has a utilitarian purpose as well. When braking hard on the SuperX, the Springer front end absorbs the momentum, eliminating front end dive.
The instrumentation is attractive, resembling many of the features that the original SuperX modeled in the early 1900s. The gearing ratio takes a little getting used to, but is effective, nonetheless. The motorcycle likes to run, and does not easily lose it's breath. The paint job is attractive and is accented with lots of chrome. The chrome and Springer front end come standard on all models and contributes to the $19,000.00 sticker price.
The Excelsior Henderson also introduces a few other unique features. The engine is an X-Twin. It differs from the V-Twin, with it's fifty degree slant...as opposed to the standard forty-five degree slant. This is said to reduce wear and tear on the engine components. The motorcycle is also fuel injected, which the road crew spent a great deal of effort in perfecting.
The SuperX is an attractive alternative to Harley Davidson. Taste is subjective, and many people will not find this motorcycle attractive. However, for the multitude of people who DO find it attractive, it is a well-built machine that the company stands behind. It is a solid motorcycle that any bike lover should be proud to own. I would highly recommend this motorcycle to anyone who can afford the $19,000 sticker price.
Update 1/16/2008: The Excelsior Henderson Company went into bankruptcy in 2000. They produced 2,000 motorcycles before a man named Heaton, who promised to keep the brand alive, parceled out the company. There are no warranties for this bike, but some of the original dealerships still work on them. If you are in an area that does not have a dealership, you can find help on the numerous message boards regarding this motorcycle. There are parts still being machined for this bike by enthusiasts. Owning one of these motorcycles is like being in a private club. These bikes are still readily available on E-Bay, selling between $7,500 and $10,000 which is far below the original sticker price. The parts in this bike cost more than that when they built it. These motorcycles were OEM produced bikes, making them a part of American History. Like the Edsel, unfair trade practices but this company out of business. However, the motorcycle, and the people who love them still ride on!
