Pros: Great power, suspension, and sound. A blast to ride!
Cons: Tough clutch to handle in stop and go situations.
The Bottom Line: I recommend this bike for the rider who likes long rides, but does'nt like really heavy bikes. Stop and go trips on this bike are not recommended.

Dring my honeymoon to Kauai, my wife and I rented a pair of Harleys. Even though it rained most of the day, we still had fun rumbling around the island. My first impression of the bike was that it was much lighter than my father's Road King and much lighter than the Ultra Classic that I rented last year from Eaglerider.com in Austin. Despite some stories I've heard of Softtails being rougher rides than the other bikes like the touring and dyna models, I found the 2001 Fatboy to be quite comfortable. However, this could have been due to the fact that the newer 2001 softtail model's suspensions have been improved.
The performance of the Fatboy was much better than the Road King and the Ultra Classic. This is expected because the engines are almost identical, but the Fatboy (665 lbs) seemed much lighter than the other two (Road King-723 lbs, Ultra Classic-776 lbs) which allowed it to accelerate and stop better. Despite all this, the trip that my wife and I took required a lot of starting and stopping, and the hefty clutch on the bike was hard to continuously squeeze on and off. My wife complained the same about the night train that she rode. Therefore, I do not recommend this bike for intercity trips with lots of stop and go traffic. Overall however, the bike was great! It was smooth, powerful, and sounded great! This bike would be great for those who like to take long bike rides but don't like really heavy bikes.
