| Wisky's Full Review: 2000 Honda Elite 80 |
The Honda Elite 80 is not a Mo-ped, or a motorcycle, it is in the midrange of those two. Faster than a Moped, but more practical then a motorcycle.
Preformance: Speed- what do you concider fast for a transmission with one gear, and 80CCs? If you concider 40 to be crazy, you would be right, but Honda takes it to the max with this scooter to have the ability to top 50, give it a good day with a slight downward incline, and a breeze going your way, 55. The engine is quiet and purrs like a kitten, even when full throttle at high speeds. This scooter gets about 60 Miles a gallon, thats great concidering it has the speed, and the convience of a 4 stroke, no oil mixing needed!
Handling, Wet Roads..: On a rainy day, the only thing that will stop this bike is your desire to stay inside, some people leave it outdoors all season, is it the best thing? NO, but can it take it? Yeah. Think of it as a car, the electrics operate fine on a wet day, or a rainy day. Just don't accelerate too much on a wet sewer plate (see personal experience)!
Convience: VERY! Think of it, squeeze between traffic, and keep up with cars on a busy street. It is not that easy to steal, as you need a key to start it. If you opt for more speed, and highway capabilities, go for a used Honda Elite 125, 150, 250, or Honda Helix (expensive) 250, these can reach crazy speeds (for a scooter), and will keep up and overtake cars on an interstate highway. The Elite 80 however is too wimpy to even go near an onramp, sorry 80 guys, backroads only, that might be the only minus. Battery lasts for a while and should be good for each season. Just recharge it every 3 months, to be safe, or whenever it dies, if youre risky.
Overall, Personal Experiences and Thoughts: This scooter is very convient, and very, very fun. But with small tires, handling is rather limited, and yes- I have fell before and heres what I did. I'm sure youre all fimiliar with wet manhole covers, what they are, and look like, well picture one of those beneath my rear wheel, it's wet, and so is my tire, on a slight uphill incline, when the light turned green, I full throttled it, and since my tire had no traction on the wet manhole cover, it slided right, and I fell, leaving 147 Pounds only left knee. I was ok, but i could have broke my knee, or worse, my leg. Other than that, ive had great experiences with my Honda Elite 80 Scooter.
