This is a great scooter for city driving. It's reliable, fairly quiet, easy to maneuver, and gets good gas mileage. However, two people on it going up a hill is not a good idea, don't even think about getting on a highway, and (especially sitting next to a Vespa or a Lambretta) it won't make you look that cool.
Back in 1997 I bought a 1986 Elite that was in surprisingly good shape (considering it's made almost entirely of plastic). The good news is I rode it nearly every day for about three years and never had any mechanical problems with it (save replacing the battery and a minor repair to the steering column). It could always be counted on to start. The bad news is after years of routine wear and tear a lot of the plastic body had cracked or simply fallen off and the seat was cracked and torn.
It's a great bike to learn on as there's no shifting involved, it's light and easy to weave in and out of stopped traffic, parking's a breeze and it's a whole lot of fun. If it's not your first bike though or if you want something more than an A-to-B machine you might want something a little more high end.
