Pros: fuel economy, fuel gauge, oil change, 4-stroke reliability, oil-tight.
Cons: no kickstand, dated 80's "wedge" styling, inadequate storage capacity even compared to newer 50cc scooters.
The Bottom Line: At this expenditure level you could go through one of these every couple years and still come out ahead.

| tremendius's Full Review: 2000 Honda Elite 80 |
Owned my '02 for 18 months now. it has been a reliable starter every time although typical honda cold-blooded. it goes through a 2-3 minute phase after ignition where it only wants to splutter at transition from idle to 1/2 throttle. my solution upon startup is to immediately jump on and throttle wide open down the road where it does fine and warms more quickly.
otherwise i love the little thing. no 2-stroke oil to deal with or even remember. i've ridden my friends '04 yamaha Vino 125 and the Elite 80 is definitely the "peppier" of the two, although about equal in top speed- 40 to 45 mph, depending on a variety of factors: wind, grade of the road, your weight, etc. Yes, 45 mph-tops! Its not fast enough for highways, but hey-what do you expect from 80cc and one speed? if you need more speed or more charisma, that's what real motorcycles are for! this thing's great around town and it's a blast to wring its little neck on the occasional twisty country lane. and fuel economy? I calculate aprox. 80 mpg! try that in your hybrid. Just don't expect to get much pep out of it with a passenger on board; performance deteriorates to about the 40cc level. And my friend's Vino has enough storage underseat to swallow a full-face helmet! the Elite only has a little "trunk" in front capable of holding a couple schoolbooks; what's up with that? Be sure to opt for the xtra "luggage rack" and "storage basket" that attach behind the seat. They'll make you look dorkier but at least you'll be able to carry your bag of groceries home, which is what this thing is for after all...
