I am 39 yrs old and have owned 23 motorcycles. My 99 VFR 800 is the most multipurpose bike I've owned. The solution to the too quiet stock exhaust can be fixed very quickly. Many aftermarket pipes deliver the Nascar v8 sound that will melt your soul. I've had inline 4 riding buddys tell me that it sounds like nothing they've heard before... then they smile.
The motor is by design top heavy and the radiators do deliver excessive heat to the rider in stop n go traffic.
I would put it in the catagory of the liter bikes for the sport touring comfort but it has a short wheel base that lets it handle and wheelie like a 600cc bike.
I just took a 1700 mile trip with friends and the seat wasn't a problem. The aftermarket screen (Targa) is slightly taller than stock and created the perfect air pocket for a 6ft. rider. The throttlerocker saved my wrist. Cruise control really would not have helped.
I disagree with the vibration issue. The VFR 800 cruised at 5500 rpms at 75 mph and has no vibration. Vibration does begin at about 6500-7000 rpms but it is slight, similar to that on an in-line 4.
You will love the torq. I love that you can pull the front wheel up in 2nd gear from simply turning your wrist:)
