| Korie's Full Review: 2000 Honda Interceptor |
The very first date, that I had with my husband (friend at the time) was going for a ride on his motorcycle. I expected him to drive up on an older model bike because he was in his 30's. He drove up on an Interceptor. I was impressed. It was a nice looking bike. Very fast. (He still hasn't grown up)
We spent a few dates riding his bike. I have to admit that it was really fun. He could go from 0-60 in just seconds. It would nearly pull you off the bike if you weren't holding on. What a rush.
After we got married, he had it for a couple of years and decided to sell it. I guess that I was in part to blame with that. I was worried about his safety. There are a lot of these bikes around where we live. Most of them driven by unexperienced, young drivers. My husband himself nearly died in an accident if it hadn't been for his helmet (which he hardly ever wore). I am an advocate for wearing helmets, but feel that it should be the bikers decision to wear them. If they are stupid enough to not cover their melons while driving one of these at the normal speed or excessive speed, which they do more often than not, then I guess that is their problem.
These are nice bikes with a lot of power. Most of them way exceed the speed limit (I am sure) in most states. A lot of the drivers try to hit this speed no matter where they are. We live on a country road that is a hot spot for these bikes. Most of the drivers exceeding the speed limit by quite a bit. Country roads have speed limits too ya' know.
Two downfalls of this bike. First is that it is not a comfortable ride with a passenger for extended travel. We went for an all day ride and my butt was never the same. Nor my back. Most suited for single riders. My other complaint which I might get hassle for is that I think any rider before purchasing one of these bikes should be made to take a safety course.
My point: A couple of years ago, we were on our way into town and were approximately 1 mile from our home when we were stopped in the road from a young lady needing our help. We pulled over and realized that a young man (that we knew personally) had tried to pass her up on the road and had not realized the power of the bike and overcorrected driving off into a bar ditch on the side of the road. We literally stood there and watched the 21 year old young man die. I was sick to the stomac. He had major head injuries even though he was wearing a helmet. It was stripped off from the impact. I had the terrible job of having to call his mother to let her know that her son was on his way to the hospital. I couldn't tell her that I knew he was dead. This young man had just purchased the motorcycle one hour before his accident. He had never driven one before.
We need to take action to make sure that people buying these bikes know how to handle them and know how the bike performs before ever getting on the road with them. It is mostly young kids that are buying these bikes and it is very scary. We need this for their safety and for others' safety.
