| thecrutch's Full Review: 2000 Honda Magna |
Bought this '95 Magna from a local Honda dealership on Dec 2, 2002. The bike had 807 original miles, and had been re-painted grey (was Magna Yellow). The engine had been checked out, anything wrong was repaired or changed, and I was given a 90 day full parts/labor warranty. I paid $4500.00.
The Magna has a very low seat, so handling the bike is ez and flat footed. The guages (speedo and tach) are placed in great position , as are the status lights. Bars are comfortable and pegs are slight forward and pretty comfortable. Rear pegs are too high for anyone over 5' 2" tall. Pilot seat is comfy for short rides, but too soft for longer rides. Passenger seat is fairy comfortable.
Engine is strong , with redline at about 9700 RPM. Stock exhaust sounds good, but some will probablyl do exhaust modification to louden it up.
Bike is FAST...ride with 1100-1600 cc bikes, and you will be leading the pack in most types of riding conditions. My riding buddies have nick named my bike "The HotRod".
On the open highway, bike could use a 6th gear. 65 MPH yields about 4500 RPM. Once you get to about 75 mph, the RPM range gets "buzzy", and vibrations will annoy. I plan on changing my front sproket out (one tooth difference) to drop RPM about 500-600 @ 70 MPH.
Over all, bike is great. It's small enough to handle nimbly in town, but heavy and strong enough to ride with the "big boys" on the open road. Also, adding a windshield, taking off the rear seat, or adding back rest and luggage rack all give the Magna a different personality for whatever riding style you prefer.
Bottom Line: Good value, good comfort for low to medium distance cruises, and super speed for the twisties.
P.S. If you want to see hundreds of pics of Magna Rider Assocation members' bikes, check www.magnariders.com, go to MEMBERS LIST, and you can view the members bikes. Mine is #1199.
