| syzx's Full Review: 2000 Honda Nighthawk 750 |
Can you look in the mirror & say, I can handle at least a 600cc motorcycle? If so ... continue.
Are you looking for a pocket rocket that will get you from 0-60 in less than 3.5 seconds? If so, stop & go over and look at the Kawi Ninjas .... ;-)
If you're still reading ... you may be looking for the ultimate:
- commute motorcycle
- in efficiency/effectiveness
- in economy
You also may be considering:
- reliability
- construction
- model consistency
- comfort
- the bike's range (meaning can it zip - to - does it commute well?)
Keep reading, it only get's better.
I'm still riding a Honda Nighthawk because:
1. It's got an engine that is impossible to beat for a commuter
- it has hydraulic valves ... meaning it NEVER needs a costly valve job (my buddy pays about $350 for his ANNUAL valve job on his sport bike)
- it doesn't have plastic everywhere that will (a) break (b) chip (c) fade over time (d) break if it gets dropped
- it gets greater than 40mpg EVEN THOUGH I NEVER drive less than 80mph on the freeway (not including those pesky times I've gotta split lanes; legal in CA)
- I can drive in the HOV / Carpool lanes legally
- it'll go as fast as most need to go (I've had mine up around 120 or so)
- it corners VERY nicely, no heavy feeling
- the front disk is nice (twin-pistoned calipers)
- cops don't notice you FLYING along as quickly if you're on a Nighthawk (versus a Kawi Green Ninja, hunched over LOOKING like your flying along)
I've had it a little more than 3 years, have put more than 40,000 miles on it (I commute winter & summer on it), and wouldn't part with it for what I paid!
My insurance is DIRT cheap. My annual maintenance is VERY REASONABLE. My down days are equal to NONE.
Having been riding year round since 1985, and having owned quite a few bikes, my LAST TWO motorcycles have been Honda Nighthawks ... Currently I'm on a 1995 NH 750cc. Previously, it was a 1985 Night Hawk 650.
What did my previous bike have that I WISH I HAD NOW???
- 6 gears (5 + O.D.)
- it loved going 140mph!
- SHAFT DRIVE!! OH MY! HOW NICE - no/low maintenance
If you think you can ride a 600 cc, try a test drive on this one and see if you don't like it! And it's a great bike.
If you have a Nighthawk and want to upgrade - don't. Try putting some sticky Dunlops on your bike, putting in a better clutch, maybe a slightly bigger bore carb and jetting around on your Nighthawk for a bit! I bet you find it amazingly stealthy http://www.dunloptire.com/cycle/tires/k591.html
Still don't like it, look at the resale value! :)
