| jaybird248's Full Review: 2000 Honda Nighthawk 750 |
I want to update my earlier review on my 92 Nighthawk 750, done 4 years ago at 20M miles. and deleted in place of this new one.
At the time, I enjoyed the bike's comfort, power, low cost to buy and own, and general ease of handling and ride. I felt there was no better deal on two wheels!
I now have 75k miles and the "Blackbird" is still running like a champ, and easily keeping up with the Goldwings and BMWs of my riding club on our weekly 300 mile road trips, while scoring 40-50 mpg.
I change the oil every 3K and replace tires every 10-12k miles. Other than that, my tach has failed as it seems to on all these bikes, and recently, I started getting oil leakage from the valve cover gasket (not the head gasket). This is also common on hi-miles NHs. About $200 to replace it.
Among normal replacements were the battery once and the chain once. My current chain has 30k on it and shows little wear. I oil it with 80-90w gear oil about every 500 miles ... a 5 minute job with a dollar store paintbrush.
Other than that, the bike's been a champ and has repaid its $2,000 initial cost many times over. Having added a Rifle fairing, headlight modulator, soft bags, throttle lock, flashing taillights, highway pegs, and other goodies, I've got it just about the way I want it.
I therefore intend to keep it until the wheels fall off.
