Pros: Smooth and pulling motor, SUPER reliable, great beginners' bike
Cons: Small size, bad brakes and poor suspension
The Bottom Line: Jack of all trades, master of none. This XR will perform incredible things if you let it. The engine will never stall and it will start on the kick.

| atvandmxman42's Full Review: 2000 Honda XR100R |
Two years ago I bought a new XR100 when I was up in Missouri visiting my uncle ( Who just happend to be a trials maniac! ) on his farm filled with miles and miles of trails. I figured this would be the ideal place to break in the engine and get used to how everything worked.
Over the years I have noticed that the motor has a great amount of torque connected to a wide-ratio 5-speed tranny and has a gear for almost any situation. The smooth motor will climb and hill you can throw at and swing through those tight and twisty trail even though the small 99cc air-cooled four-stroke makes 8.5 horsepower, not to mention it has a 30.5 inch seat height and a dry weight of only 160lbs!
If you ever get tired of the 8.5 ponies, there are tons of after-market companies that make big-bores to 105cc, 110cc, 115cc, 125cc, 144cc, 150cc, and even 185cc! The XR in stock form still has plenty of power.
Most everything about the XR is great if not exellent exept for two things. The brakes and the suspension. It is a bad thing that a bike capable of 49mph speeds ( yeah, I clocked myself ) only has drum brakes. And then the suspension has springs set way too soft ( I weigh 130lbs ). If you get over two feet of air, the bike will land with a painful "clunk".
I would recommend the XR to anybody. From first-timers to ATV riders to CR250 riders to anyone who wants to refine their skills on a motorcycle.
