Pros: quick and agile engine, nice styling, great gas mileage, great price ($4,700).
Cons: needs a full fairing for aggressive bike look, needs aftermarket exhaust, sound.
The Bottom Line: A must have bike for the beginner, but especially for those who like custom work and enjoy taking a smaller bike and making it outrun much bigger bikes.

| jjimprovman's Full Review: 2000 Kawasaki Ninja 500R |
I recently just purchased a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 500R and am still in the break in process. This bike is amazing. All the reviews I read in my 3 months of research said that is was durable, sporty yet practical, and a great bargain for the price. I must say, for being a fairly skilled rider I wanted a bike built for gas mileage and for fun. Many of the 600's and 1000's drink gas faster than my 2004 SS truck does.
The thing I did hear and disagree with in a few of the reviews is that the bike is underpowered. Lets look at this from a scientific standpoint. The bike does 0-60 in 3.76 seconds (faster than a Z06 Corvette mind you). My brother in law has a 1,500 cc Polaris, and although it is not a sport tuned bike, pounds out some serious hp and torque. But, his bike weighs in about 700 lbs as opposed to the 388 dry weight of the 500R. Also if you pay attention to sport bike racing, the 500R is a favorite because of the power to weight ratio. Think of it this way. This is a great priced bike, with many benefits, an if you desire more power, then by simply adding $1,200 in aftermarket upgrades (jet kits, exhaust, air intake, tires) this bike will run with any 750 CC on the market (stock) because of the weight. And you still will be saving about $3,000.
