| kawa-bunga-kid's Full Review: 2000 Kawasaki Ninja 500R |
Ok first off let me say that I am truly a nube to the sport. This morning I got my first motorcycle ever, a 2006 lime green Kawasaki Ninja 500R. I had been looking at these bikes for about a year reading up as much as I could on them. At first I wasn't to impressed with the 20 some year old style and the reviews of how it got boring after a couple of months. But the more I read the more I liked and the more I looked at it the more it grew on me. When I went to get it I was shocked at how big it seemed (insert laugh from experienced motorcycle guy here) and how heavy it was. Once home I immediatly hopped on to learn how to ride. Keep in mind I had never even rode on a motorcycle before let alone drove one. In twenty minutes I was putting up and down the street with confedence. I was amazed at how easy it was to shift and the touchyness of the throttle. By the way these reviews talked I expected this thing to take time and a wide open throttle to get up to speed. Well that is NOT the case! My first take off was just that a TAKE OFF, and suddenly I was caught in this terrible cycle of falling back from the acceleration and pulling the throttle from falling back. So for those nimrods like me: take it easy the first time, its got GO! So after I got confedent with shifting, stopping, and accelerating I decided to hit the town. I was enjoying zooming around getting looks from all the girls when it happend. I forgot to down shift when I came to a stop sign so when I started out it stalled and in my panic the bike started to fall. It floped over onto my leg dispite my best efforts to hold it up wile screaming NOOOOOOOO!!!!! the whole time. I was fine but afraid I wouldnt be able to pick the bike back up, but after I calmed down from franticly pulling on it I got a better hold on it and picked it back up. I couldn't bring my self to look at the damage done to my brand new bike with 13.8 miles on it until I got home. To my surprise the damage was minimal some scrapes on the mirror, one or two hardly visible dings in the pipe and some dirt in the handlebar. The relativly good news prompted another ride around town so others could admire my still good looking bike. So for those of you who like me weren't/arn't sure what is good for a first bike form one nube to another this bike is amazing it has plenty of power and gets the looks for a great price.
