| nivek0's Full Review: 2000 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R |
This happened to be my first bike. Quite a step up from the toy I learned on. This beast is anything but a toy. There lies a demon under the hood of this machine. With this motorcycle's light weight, 16 valve 4cyl. DOHC 600cc engine, and flashy color scheme it is certain to be the center of attention on the road.
I have had mine up to 90+MPH just in second gear! The transmission is a 6 speed (Shift Pattern bottom up 1-N-2-3-4-5-6 w/Neutral Finder) and red line begins at 14,500! Had it only up to 110MPH. (Call my fuddy duddy, but I value my life.) It seems like at such higher RPM and speed, this bike transforms from extravagant grocery getter into a monster. It takes on another personality and begins to exhibit a feeling of this RPM is what it was meant to do. I truly love my ninja.
The bike has a seat height 820 mm (2.7 ft) so I can sit comfortably with ability to have my feet touch the ground (I am roughly 5ft 10in). Gas mileage is relative to how aggressive you drive. I have been able to use an entire tank in one day, and been able to conserve a tank for the week to/from work. With 18 liters (4.75 gal), consumption is up to you.
Dry, it weighs only 171 kg (377 lbs). It also sports cooling fans along with a liquid cooled radiator. It does offer a temperature gauge and dummy light for over heating. The seat is satisfactory in terms of comfort. Over lengthy rides it may become uncomfortable although it is all about personal preference. I would recommend getting a tank guard to save your tank from scratches and dings. The guard also will help cushion your chest when laying over the tank in a more aggressive riding position, or on longer trips. However, do not plan on bringing a passenger over long distances with this bad boy; the ride will be most unnatural for both driver and passenger. If you want to bring a passenger, you are looking at the wrong bike.
The twin headlights in the front and the awesome front fairing really provide this bike with aesthetic appeal. They also function quite well at night and provide ample lighting. However, I have had an issue lately with the hi-beams not working when I switch them on ever now and then. The signal lights are a bit tacky (and they tend to break), and can be modified along with the plastic mud flap over the rear tire.
Simple routines like changing the oil is relatively easy to do after removing the side fairing.
