Years ago I really wanted to buy a Ninja when I grew up. That was back in the good old days when Kawasaki made really good bikes, and no one could touch them.
Well, here anymore it is Yamaha that leads the pack, and Honda is close behind with the CBR models. I personally wouldn't ever purchase a Kawasaki just because I have ridden several different size Ninjas and I am not at all impressed with them.
I had to eat my words last weekend when I went out on the ritual Sunday Afternoon ride. One of my good friends brought a guy along who had just finished breaking in his 2000 Ninja ZX-9R, and so naturally everyone wanted to check it out. Since I ride the Yamaha R6, I got to be one of the first to check it out, because he wanted to ride my bike.
At first I was very unimpressed as I was taking it easy getting the feel of the bike, but once I started to open it up a little bit, hold onto your hats! In my personal opinion, it out performed the Honda CBR 900RR in just about every way possible. I thought the acceleration was a little bit quicker, the gears changed smoother, and it took corners just a little easier (this is my opinion, of course).
I really liked the way that the tank is cut in, because it is a little narrower (is that a word?) than the Honda is. For me, being 5'8" and 155 lbs soaking wet, I like the bikes that are cut in tight and feel smaller than the other bikes of the same class. That is why I bought the R6 over the CBR F4 was because when I sat on the R6 it just felt smaller underneath me.
The only thing I do not like about this bike is the price. For the same price you can buy the Yamaha YZF R1, which is a 1000 and will smoke the Ninja 6 ways from Sunday. But that is once again my opinion, because I am partial to the Yamaha bikes...
