Vulcan 800A

Written: Jul 5, 2000

Pros:Great bike for the price
Cons:hard to adjust rear shock preload.

I was attracted to this bike by it's looks. The Vulcan 800 looks like a 7/8 scale Harley softtail, and costs less than a third the price. I bought it because of it's low price, quality, reputation and performance. I am very happy with the bike so far and have had no problems. I saw it as an "entry level" bike, and since I have just started riding again after twenty- five years of kid raising, I consider myself as a re-entry rider and wanted something easy to ride and care for. The 800 has been that and much more. I am so pleased with the performance and rider friendliness that I see no reason to look at bigger machines. Even though the 800A came out in 1995, many other riders have admired it and ask "Is it a Harley?" Even Harley riders sometimes mistake it for a HD, which pleases me, because I like the Harley look.
