2004 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO

After a long time of looking and saying I was going to buy a 4 wheeler I broke down and purchased a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO with the Mossy Oak Break up. Also included were the rack extenders a 2500 pound winch and hand and thumb warmers. I purchased this unit to primarily work on 120 acres of land and for hunting. The unit quickly became a very fun way to get away for a few minutes or more.
At first I was worried that the 500 engine size would not be powerful enough for what I wanted to use this for I am now glad that I purchased the 500 rather than a larger engine size this unit is plenty powerful enough for all my needs. The 4X4 switch is nicely located and unit shifts from 2 to 4 wheel drive smoothly. This is very easy to ride and most any one can operate unit. Winch control is also in an easily accessible placed on the handle bars. The 500 has an amazing amount of info available on the speedodometer That you access by pushing a button. Reverse is speed limited and 4 wheel drive is not normally engaged but you can engage it with the push of a button to help you out of a tight spot.
I used the Machine daily through most of the fall and hunting season traveling about 370 miles and did not experience a problem with the Machine it self. It was used in all weather conditions that you can imagine in northern New England. I did experience a problem with the winch but that was quickly corrected by the dealer.
I do wish that this machine would get a little better fuel mileage.
I opted for the Mossy Oak Break up for my 4 wheeler which added to the purchase price but is not necessary but a nice option. If you are looking to purchase a 4 wheeler or other ATV you would do well to check out Polaris and there line which has many choices in models and engine sizes which should meet most every need. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a 4 wheeler.
Experienced my second problem a defect or misrouted coil wire this was again corrected quickly by the local dealer at no charge but would recommend all owners check to see if there unit is affected
This machine is now at 1883 miles it has been dependable and basicly trouble free I have replaced 1 axle boot on the rear and itdoes now need a boot on the front axle but it has definitely been in some tough territory. Still think this is the best ATV on the market
This machine continues to give me excellent service at 2100 miles and counting
