| conniew's Full Review: 2000 Suzuki BANDIT 1200S |
I bought the Bandit after learning that it was of very similar physical size and weight to the 600 - I thought more grunt, why not? I have taken the front fairing and headlight off and replaced it with a single round headlight as the un-faired model was not imported into New Zealand and I have a love of naked muscle type bikes.
I love the Bandit for it's all over grunt and the way it keeps the sports flickability, also the unending personalisation that is available - the possibilities are endless, you just need to pick up any copy of Performance Bike or Streetfighter to see that.
I cover New Zealand by motorcycle for my job and I find it to be extremely reliable. At times I have it loaded to the hilt in the pouring rain and the only thing I can pick wrong with it is the way water flicks up from the rear tyre onto my back (be aware that this is totally my fault as I removed the guard that the number plate was attached to - it looks a heap tidier though).
I think this bike is the ultimate Sport Tourer, it is more than comfortable in either situation with it's high-ish bars, comfy seat, all over power and lightweight, well-balanced maneuverability.
The only down side I could possible imagine is that the seat height will not lend itself to those that are vertically challenged. I'm 5'10" and find it perfect, any shorter and I might have to think twice.
I did find a problem with the frame when changing a tyre recently - the frame is bent. Over the length of the frame there is a difference of 12mm and the factory tolerance is a maximum of 10mm. Unfortunately Suzuki NZ are not interested in replacing it. Another little moan is the quality of the paint work. Any slight touch and there's a scratch, this means constant polishing if you want to keep it in mint condition.
