I have never been a Suzuki man, never owned one. That is not to say that I don't like the machines, I just never had the inclination to get one. I have owned Yamaha almost exclusively since my first bike waaay back in '82. The list includes a FZX700, VMX1200 and currently the classic FJ1200 (not the whole list just the highlights). I was blessed by a friend and allowed to experience the wonder that is the Busa (a used 99).
Some quick slow turns in the parking lot showed me the center of gravity and I pointed it at the road (quiet, smooth and sans police activity). Once the bike lined up, pointing in the direction of choice, I did what begged to be done, yanked the throttle to the stops. .25ms later I realized that I was going to rupture something real quick (the FJ is strong but, damn). Even the threat of internal bleeding could not override the body's desire to open the magic gland (read Adrenalin)even further. OK, 85 time to shift, yes into 2nd. I got nowhere near the upperlimit here, ran out of straight away, so time to turn. Bit of advice for first time Busa riders, don't think to hard about turning the bike senses this and dose it for you. Yes I may be corrupted by the longer, heavier FJ, but....damn. Feed back from the bike was more akin to wearing the machine than riding it. Hyped up by my out of balance blood chemistry I know I missed tons of information the bike was providing, who cares the brain was screaming for more. Reluctantly I rode back to the point of departure, and attempted to sign the FJ title over to the blessed individual that allowed me this pleasure. A short hostage situation and brief struggle later I was back on the good ole FJ, still rushing from the blast to my system (I am going through withdrawls right now BTW, and this was 4 days ago).
Thoughts:
I WILL HAVE ONE. Will I discard the venerable FJ for the new habit? No, it's paid for, in immaculate condition and getting increasingly rare. Will I become a hopeless adrenalin junkie? God I hope so (I only thought I was until this incident).
By no means is this a first bike for anyone, although a very forgiving machine, it is without a doubt VENOMOUS. Even if you have ridden BBMB's (Big Bore Muscle Bikes) before this one changes the rules (I thought my V-Max had spleen rupturing acceleration). If your looking for the current in the ultimate category this is it.
