Reliability: This is actually a pretty reliable bike. Now a days it is nearly impossible to find a bike that isnt reliable if taken care of. Maintenance is fairly easy to do. You do have to use the aluminum foil trick when changing your oil to avoid having to smell burning oil for the next 1000 miles. The center stand makes this bike very useful. While difficult to get on to the center stand, once on there the bike is well secured.
Comfort: This bike is comfortable seat wise. The fairing design is bad!.!.!.! There is nothing for your knees to grab on to. No matter how much you squeeze the tank you will still slide forward, a lot! The wind protection is also good. The fairings keep you legs and your head from getting hit by much wind.
Quality & Craftsmanship: I had no problems here. The bike fit together rather well. But once you took the fairings off the first time and tried to put them back on, I could never get them perfectly aligned.
Handling & Control: Here is where the bike falls apart. THIS THING IS TERRIBLE! It is way to heavy. Most of that weight is top weight too. The bike is a bear to handle at slow speeds and is ungodly under manual power. Slow speed turns are so dangerous on this bike it is embarrassing. It wants to fall over all the time. You have to muscle this thing around.
Pros: This bike is a good price & good value. It is sporty in a straight line. It is also reasonably comfortable and reliable.
Cons: This is the worst bike I ever had. Period, Bar-none. It shows it weight in whatever you do. While some bikes only weight 50 pounds less, they are significantly balanced better than the Katana.
Parting note: I bought this bike in Myrtle WITHOUT test riding one first. This was a HUGE mistake. I sold it 6 months later and bought a cruiser. My cruiser weighs more but the weight is low not high.
DO NOT BUY THIS MOTORCYCLE!!!!!!! If this is your first motorcycle dont buy it. It will not instill confidence and it will not be easy to handle. The weight is just too much to over come. This is not a beginners bike. If you want a beginners bike get a Ninja 500R. If you are thinking of upgrading to this bike, DONT!.!.!.! This bike is ungodly outdated and terribly designed. It is not fun to ride and is a chore to do anything with. No one should buy this motorcycle, it is just that bad. Suzuki needs to dump it OR redesign it. It is time for a light weight frame and fuel injection.
