I purchased my 1999 Marauder on September 27, 2000. I purchased it used from a private owner. The bike had 3000 miles on it and the selling price was great.
Before purchasing this bike I was looking for quite a few month. I looked in the cycle trader and some of the local dealers. When I started looking for bikes I had my heart set on a Yamaha 650 V Star Custom. That's what I was going to get no questions asked. All I had to do was find a good deal on one. While searching the cycle trader I saw the Marauder. That was it, there was no turning back at that point. The look and style of the bike was perfect. When I saw it in person I was amazed at all the chrome. I never looked back at the V Star again (don't get me wrong I'm sure the V Star is an excellent bike).
After purchasing the bike I noticed two things about the bike that needed to be changed. First and foremost I needed to do something about the "brick" they call a seat. I decided I would take it to an upholster to re-shape the seat and give it more of a pocket to sit in. I figured if that didn't help then I will invest in a mustang seat. So far I like the new re-shaped seat. Secondly, the foot pegs had to go. I felt like my feet were going to fall off of them. I searched the internet and came across Kuryakyn Iso Mini Floorboards. What a difference that makes. I can't begin to express how much better it is riding. Those were the only two changes that I found a necessity.
The previous owner of my bike had already added Cobra slash cut slip-ons, chrome grips, tank bib, fender bib and ridged mount studded saddlebags. All these mods are just cosmetic add ons.
So all in all the bike is an excellent bike, especially when there are only a few minor adjustments and changes that makes a big difference in the over all comfort of the bike.
As far at the performance goes, it is outstanding. I haven't had a problem in the 3600 miles I have personally put on my bike since I purchased it. The bike starts up without a problem. I have good gas mileage and lots of power. I personally like the large front tire. It gives more road traction and more confidence while riding. The bike is not too heavy and it is very comfortable in the turns.
I would recommend this bike to any rider regardless of the skill level. It is great for a beginner and for the experienced rider.
