| doogie21b's Full Review: 2000 Suzuki MARAUDER 800 |
I bought my Marauder used for $3500. It was a completely stock 2000 model. This is my first motorcycle, and I'm not a big guy by any means (5'7", 140 lbs). In fact, the first time I had ever ridden a motorcycle was the mile and a half ride home from buying it.
The deceptively light weight of this bike makes it very unintimidating, while the long wheel base and low center of gravity make it very stable.
Still, I would hesitate to call it a beginners bike, only because it does have alot of get up and go. enough to surprise me a few times.
I purchased a Saddlemen Profiler seat to replace that awful stock seat(highly recommended). You lose the easy access to the underseat storage, but your butt will thank you(I just carry a 6mm hex wrench in my pocket when I ride).
I also replaced the front 15 tooth sprocket with a 17 tooth. I am thinking about switching to a 16 tooth, to regain some acceleration, not that the suzuki can't push the taller gear, it just loses some of that "punch in the stomach" acceleration. The 17 tooth is great if you're riding above 55mph, though.
A 6 speed tranny would be great, as it would eliminate the need for the compromise.
Overall, there are only a few things I could complain about. 1.The stock exhaust is too quiet 2.the engine could use more power(just sayin') 3.the tranny could use another cog 4.There is VERY little aftermarket support of this bike. You can get basic stuff pretty easy(exhaust, mirriors, chrome, etc.) but nothing really cool.
By the way, pictures do not do this bike justice. They look ALOT better in person than they do photographed, so if you're considering buying one, go take a look at one at a local dealership or something.
