My Riva Razz is a 1995. The model has not been changed since it was first put out. I have only had my for about five months. The Razz is limited to 30 mph so it can be classified as a moped. Overall, for a scooter, the Razz is so-so, for a moped it is excellent. Yamaha has made a moped-scooter that bypass the need for a motorcycle registration, yet it has the electric start and stability of a walk through scooter.
It handles easily and is balanced pretty well. The tires could be slightly larger to deal with ruts in the road. Still, it has a feeling of fun about it.
It has an oil injection system so you do not have to premix fuel like you do in a moped. The turn signals, high low headlight switch and horn button are on the left handle and easy to access. The battery operated starter is nice feature but it can drained the battery relatively quickly.
The initial retail price is high, if you can find a good one used, do. Some of the parts such as the flasher relay and the horn are easily found in any auto part store and are affordable.
Beware, the plastic body parts are fragile and can break easily and are pricey at the dealership. So don't treat the Riva Razz like an old fashioned metal scooter, it just wont take it.
For the price Yamaha is asking, shop around. If you like scooters but not the hassles of motorcycle registration and the other hassles of a full bike, this maybe for you.
ALWAYS WEAR A HELMET!!!
