This really applies to all of the stars. The seat height is good but because the seat is so wide you can not ride it comfortably if you have short legs. The wide seat looks nice but forces your legs to go out at a wider angle effectively making the seat to ground distance greater than the seat measurement implies. In order to reach the controls you have to ride on the tank. Even then, a panic stop would require more foot extension than is available. At some point the foot has to roll downward- leg extension alone won't cut it.
I love the bikes, but can not ride them safely without moving the foot controls in closer to the seat. Unfortunately the controls are not adjustable. Big Bummer.
This is not a unique problem limited to the Stars. It is somewhat troubling since this is the upgrade path for the Virago. Yamaha has clearly cut out a large chunk of their potential market my not realizing that many of their riders are not 6 feet tall.
With adjustable controls I would seriously consider a Star. My dealer(s) have no solutions for me short of fabbing something. But they won't touch it for liability reasons.
Those who have Stars really like them. So if you're of average or tall size go forth and enjoy this well made bike.
