Pros: Does what a cruiser is built to do.
Cons: Can't get a tank of gas without answering a lot of questions ;-)
The Bottom Line: If you want to "cruise" (without an ugly radiator) this is the only machine (unless you want to pay big bucks for the over rated Harley).

| borneagle's Full Review: 2000 Yamaha Road Star |
I have a 1999 Road Star that I purchased used, it only had 3700 miles on it and was in like new condition.
I have been riding motorcycles since the age of 14.
The Road Star is defiantly a nice bike! I have added many accessories and if I get the whim too, there are plenty more after market parts for those with deep pockets (this is definitely a good thing for those who purchase the Road Star as each and every bike can be customized to the individual rider).
This bike sounds better than a Harley (in my opinion) with after market pipes, but dont be fooled its reliability is way up the chart and a superior running bike (even taking into consideration Harley Davidsons recent advances in quality).
More than once I have ridden past a congregation of bikers all decked out in colors (and a parking lot full of Harleys) and every one of them turn to look at me rumbling past, more times than not getting the thumbs up in the process!
There is no two ways about it, this is a BEAUTIFUL bike, and it sounds better than it looks (with after market pipes installed).
While no bike is perfect this one is the closest I have come across but it does have some small shortcomings (but nothing major).
Like any V-Twin you are going to get vibration, but with this bike you dont really feel the vibration (thanks to rubber mounted handlebars and floor boards) but the rest of the bike does, so make sure all your nuts and bolts are tightened and check them occasionally.
At idle the back fender actually wobbles so much (because of the massive 1602 grumbling power plant), that I have been told reading the numbers on my plate takes a little concentration.
The bike does not corner like a sport bike and it does not accelerate like a crotch rocket (although it is no slouch) but then again it is not supposed too! This is a cruiser and you dont buy a cruiser to race around town on, rather you putt and enjoy the day! If you want to race around there are other bikes more fitted for such.
I have read many reviews from so called experts that want more power, better cornering, complain that the foot boards drag around corners etc... Again, I reiterate, this bike is built for CRUISING, period. And it is perfect for the job.
If you want a bike that is going to turn heads and grab attention then this is your bike!
I actually get a little annoyed because I can hardly fill my tank with gas without getting stopped and asked about my bike. While flattering (and at first I loved to take out the time) sometimes I am pressed and dont have the time for conversation, but I am always polite and refrain from throwing a leg over the saddle and thundering off.
In short, if you dont want a lot of people ogling your bike, stopping you in shopping mall parking lots, holding you up at gas stations, flipping you the thumbs up, and pretty girls begging for rides, then DONT buy this bike.
If you want to dash around town and tear up the streets buy another bike.
If you want to twist the throttle and create some head snapping thunder, then this is the bike for you!
