| DarbyWalters's Full Review: 2000 Yamaha YZF600R |
I purchased a 2000 YZF600r after owning a Yamaha VStar 650 Classic. I wanted something with more punch and more stopping power. After test riding many 600's (F4-TT600-ZX6R-R6) , I found that the YZF600r had all the qualities that I wanted in a beautifully priced package. Performance wise, it is a sleeper. The other popular 600's did not out perform this cycle on the street-in fact I felt more comfortable on the YZF600r than all the others. This is because up to about 10,000 rpm the horsepower and torque curve is as good or better than the other 600's. This is where most street riding occurs (1,000-10,000 rpm). After 10,000 rpm, the lighter 600's start to show their true color.
In Europe this bike is called the Thundercat and has a large following (including racing). There are also some great aftermarket products available for this bike (can be easily researched on the internet). Some other benefits that I came to realize as I ride this bike are excellent mileage, comfortable riding position, great wind protection and a very good passenger enjoyment quotient. As for some aftermarket products that I have found to be available, I have installed a M4 titanium exhaust, frame sliders( in case of a slip) , a GIVIUSA euro style windscreen (deflects even more wind off the rider) and a 520# chain conversion with Renthal 14-48 gear change (to take advantage of the bikes great low end pull).
This bike has made a believer out of me. It has delivered all that it promised and more. I highly recommend this cycle with no reservations. If you are interested in a decent priced street/sport bike, give the YZF 600r a serious look. It delivers plenty of punch in a comfortable package. If you want a bike that visually stands out get the Yamaha Blue/White combination. If you want a more sophisticated street sleeper look, get the classic black. Either way you will get a bargain.
