| kevo's Full Review: 2000 Yamaha YZF-R6 |
I will not go into the specifics and intricacies of the R6, go to the Yamaha website for that. Yes, the R6 is excellent when doing what it was designed for, but for an all around great motorcycle, it lacks much. You may read all about how well it will corner, but when I rode it, obviously cornering ability was paid for at the expense of stability. Yes, it is fast as stink, but one must rev 'er a little and then slip the clutch since there is very little low end power. My good friend paid the price, the very high price! for one of these machines. He also has in his stable a Honda VFR 700, Yamaha FZR 1000, and the R6. Rarely does he pull out the R6 when we are going to be on a long ride. My own view of the bike is that there isn't one when you are in the saddle. What I mean by this is that Yamaha has made this bike so miniscule, there is practically no protection from the wind. You have to look like a Goober and tuck behind the wind screen at only 60 MPH to get out of it. As far as others who may encourage a new rider to hop onto a motorcycle like this, just take a look at the statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website===Sportbike+rider with less than 1 year experience=casualty.
One other note, a local Yamahaha dealer had 2, count 'em 2, '99 R6's in the shop for more than 2 months a piece. Get what you want from that.
