The Yamaha YZF 600 R-1 is probably the fastest of the 600 cc
superbikes that were released in 1999. Riding the R-6 is a real pleasure.
To begin, when you sit on this machine it almost seems to wrap around you.
Almost like you were sitting in it, rather than on it. Rider position is typical of a modern day superbike. Throttle response on the "stock" model
is so crisp and responsive that its almost scary.
The R-6 boasts a sturdy aluminum chassis with a suspension to match. Quick handling and extremely nimble in many types of corners at all kinds of speeds and braking situations. The whole handling package is topped off by an extremely powerful set of front brakes, which are impressive to say the least.
Finally, the R-6's power plant leaves a little to be desired on the bottom end of the powerband and really doesn't seem to make a whole lot of horsepower below 8000 rpm. However, when the little guy does start making power around 8000 - 9000 rpm hold on to your hat! The front wheel on a stock model has a hard time staying on the ground thru the gears when its on the pipe. The Yamaha YZF - R6 is probably the most fun for the money. And by the way, I took a stock model to 167 mph myself. Imagine what pipes and carb kits would do.
