Pros: The 250R is quite attractive, Great fit and finish. Loads of power, nice and light.
Cons: The fuel tank is small. Gearing to short. Vibration problem.
The 2001 Honda cr250r is a very nice bike, I quite frankly am in love with it. I bought it new this spring, the bike I had before that was a '86 cr250r and I liked that bike very much also. Everything I had read on the 01 cr250r said that the jetting was completely messed up, so I was a little worried about it. However I checked around on the net and in magazines and everyone had a fix for it, so I took the plunge.
After my first ride on the bike I was very happy with the way it rode, the handling was very tight and motor hit very hard and kept pulling, I always found myself wanting to grab another gear. I live at about 1100 ft above sea level and I gotta tell you, my jetting is fine! Absolutely no problems what so ever.
I've had the bike for about 3 weeks now and still no problems. I run Interlube Int's Opti2 2 stroke mix oil and premium at the pump. Interlube claims you can run 100:1 problem free, however I run 80:1 with 50:1 through the first 2 tanks. Even at 50:1 the motor was very crisp and clean, except for the first hour or so to let some break in time I lugged it around the pit.
The only down falls to the bike are the small fuel tank (1.8 gallons; which is probably why it feels so nimble), close ratio gearing (which would be awesome if it had a 6th gear), and it has a bit of vibration coming out of the bars that can numb your hands after a couple of hours.
However I think its a fair trade for the rest of the package, in short i'm very pleased with mine and would recommend it to anyone.
