You want a sport quad, but you don't know if you are ready for the power of the 400ex quite yet, but you have ridden a kid's quad, or a utility quad, and know how to ride. What to get? For many people in this situation, the answer is Honda's 300ex! The 300 is a great quad to learn to a sport ATV on, and here is my take on the aspects of it.

Power: Ok, admit it, you love powerful toys, and the 300ex won't disapoint. It has ample bottom, and mid-range power, but does plateau to a mild, but still fast enough to hurt yourself top end. The 300ex has enough power to loft the front end into the air and ride a wheelie in the first few gears, alot like it's big brother, the 400ex.
Handling: The 300 handles in the typical honda fashion: Best in Class. It can rail through turns, or perform a thrilling powerslide, depending on what the rider wants to do. Because it is narrow, it can cut between tree's in the tight woods excellently, but it also causes this ATV to go up on two wheels on high speed turns if the user isn't careful to lean enough.
Suspension: To me, suspension is one of, if not the most, important part of a sport quad. The 300's suspension is good for flying down trails, and can handle some MX too, just don't expect to run with the full out race quads.
Odd's and ends: Two things I don't like about the 300's are these: The reverse procedure that can be a pain to use when the motor is cold, and the metal gas tank. Common Honda, update the tank! Metal is heavy, dents, and rusts!
Ok, by reading this review, you can see I'm a big fan of the 300ex. This isn't because I own one either, because I don't, but I do own a 400ex, and many of the 400's great features can be found in the 300.
So, as the last thing, I'll compare the Honda 300ex to it's competition.
Bad: This quad is about the same speed, heavier, no reverse, and has a kick start.
Good: High Tech, water cooled motor.
Bad: Heavier, sub-par handling and suspension, VERY dated design
Good: Slightly faster, just as reliable
Bad: Higher Maintaince, Breaks suck, cramped ergonomics.
Good: Slightly faster, has the thrill of a two stroke, easily modded for more power.
