| joepopps's Full Review: 2001 Yamaha Wolverine |
MOTOR & TRANNY-The Wolverine has the same basic air cooled 350cc power plant as Yamaha's Warrior. The motor never seems to slow or bog and has no problem with 2nd gear pullouts. The quad will climb any hill you put it in front of. With regular oil changes and air filter cleanings the quad usally runs fine. The air box design could stand to be changed becasue the air box lid is suppose to hold the filter in place but you can never tell if it is done corretly. The 5 speed auto clutch is easy to use and is reliable. The gears are well spaced and 1st is super low for towing and hill climbing. The 50 MPH top end dosn't hurt much either.
SUSPENSION & HANDLING-This thing isn't any 400EX with it's handling manners but for a 500 pound beast it handles fine and you have reverse anyway so don't worry about it.And if your aggresive with the throttle you can bust out some pretty good slides. The 7 inches of travel all the way around is pretty good with 5 way preload adjustment the Wolvering can take jumps to a certin extent. The machine rides good and there is know front end push.
BRAKES-Triple disc all the way around with a parking brake.Good feel, don't fade.
