The Bottom Line: Read this book now, even if your not a scifi type of guy. The plot and storytelling is excellent and hasn't been surpassed by any other book i've read.

Without giving too much away: This book begins by telling the story of how we evolved from simple primates into man. It moves into the year 2001 where a black monolith which is obviously artificial is discovered on the moon. The monolith is christianed TMA-1. A radio signal emitting from TMA-1 is traced to Saturn and so a team of men and an advanced computer called HAL set of on a quest to find out whats there. Problems occur with HAL and thats where the story really begins.
The plot is and excellent tale, and what makes it really good is that Clarke doesn't stray very far away from reality. He makes it seem as if these types of journeys could be happening quite soon.
