Could this review be on a Canadian car? (Reply to this comment)

I have been looking for a 2004 Honda Element AWD EX on the net today and I stumbled upon one in Vancouver, Canada. The ad said that it had black LEATHER interior. So maybe the mileage is in kilometers and not miles? Just a thought...

This review is full of inaccuracies. (Reply to this comment)

I know other people have left comments discussing the inaccuracies present in this review, but I wanted to add this comment anyway to confirm their reviews.

I have owned a 2003 and a 2004 Honda Element EX, 4WD, Automatic Transmission. There is no leather seat option, the engine ONLY comes in 4 cylinders and the 30-35 MPG figure is laughable.

This is a great vehicle and you cannot base your opinion of the Element on this review. See it for yourself, read official reviews, and talk to other Element owners. This guy clearly didn't do his homework.

Review full of inaccuracies (Reply to this comment)

I agree. This review is full of inaccuracies. I feel it should be removed. Very misleading to potential buyers.

I own a Honda Element and love it, but this review is not accurate.

Need to check your facts... (Reply to this comment)

Overall a good review, but your writing style is a little hard to read and there are several crucial factual errors.

You say about the interior that it comes with black leather seats... The seats are only available in standard Honda waterproof fabric or neoprene Honda seat covers.

Smaller than a normal 6 cylinder engine because it is 2.4 liters... Element's have never come with a 6 cylinder, and there is no way you'll get low 30s MPG with an Element. You also state that Getting the two wheel drive model would raise you gas mileage considerably which is VERY misleading to say the least. To get better than 30-35 mpg even with the FWD Element is not possible. This is not fair to possible buyers looking for great fuel economy. Those I have spoken to are getting an average of 21 with an AWD on mostly highways, which is decent for a small SUV

One final comment is about your statement on cargo room. The cargo space is unbeatable, it is just about as big as any SUV trunk... With the seats up, the Element has 25 cubic feet of cargo space. The Ford Escape has 33ft, Subaru Forester has 32ft, Scion Xb 22ft, and Toyota Rav4 29ft. Seats folded down produces better numbers, with 104 cubic feet in the Element, Ford Escape comes in with 63ft, Subaru Forester has 82ft, Scion Xb 43ft, and Toyota Rav4 68ft.

At the most the Element compares favorably to it's cute-ute competition, but to say it's just as big as any SUV trunk is an overstatement.

Address the issues in your review and I'd gladly re-rate.

If the seat in this car made the reviewer's butt soar, then I'd say the price tag is worth the seat alone. If the seat made the reviewer's butt sore, i would recommend a cushion.

Seriously, though, it was a helpful review.

In response: Seats, mileage, and mirrors (Reply to this comment)
by jurneeze
I found this review reasonably accurate, although I find it not realistic on the gas mileage being 30-35 mpg. Even the manufacture claims it should be in the mid twenties. Seats: Although you were uncomfortable, I on the other hand find them great, but I also sleep on a hard mattress. I do think the water proof seat covers are too expensive. Finally, Mirrors: - only one for passenger use on the visor, well, the only 4 other people I know owning the Element, are four women, all over 50, and we're disappointed the company only put a mirror on the passenger side and not the driver's side. Not a big deal, but let's get with the trend, - women are a high percentage of this buying market. It should have come with two mirrors. ( a small thing but don't discount how many women buy this type of vehicle). I love my Element, but my 128 pound dog loves it better in the back with seats down than my old jeep any day!

Leather seats? (Reply to this comment)
by harrison310
In your profile, you're in PA so I'm wondering if Honda is offering different options for the Element in other parts of the country. Here in California, there's no way you can get leather seats in the Element. They have their standard washable/wearproof material with optional slip covers.

Most of the Top Reviewer's in Motorsports don't purchase the cars they drive and review.

I hope you are aware of that.

Didn't get much out of your "review", dude, cause I don't think it was written about anything you ever laid eyes or hands on.

But I guess you got the attention you wanted.

Actually, if you check Ford's site, they are producing a hybrid SUV (Escape). It should easily get that mileage, it is already being ordered by enthusiasts.

Get the facts straight! (Reply to this comment)

The Element has a 4 cylinder engine, not a 6 cylinder. Your gas mileage is WAY out of line... Element owners report mileage in the mid 20's. I suggest you look closely at your Bill of Sale as I suspect you did not purchase the Element.

Good, but... (Reply to this comment)

I agree with Tess' comments about cargo capacity and gas mileage. If this thing regularly gets 30 miles per gallon, then Honda deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.

Also, a lot of your syntax is... well, non standard, which makes some of what you're saying hard to understand. I find that reading something aloud to another person exposes flaws in my writing -- I suggest that you do the same with this review.

Otherwise, you give some good information in this review... thanks!

This was a nicely detailed review, but I think you missed the point of some of the cargo related features. You clearly are aware that cargo storage is its main selling point , and that it's being advertised to appeal to a crowd with an outdoorsy, extreme sports kind of lifestyle, but you said you didn't understand what's the point of being able to fold all the seats down, and why the back doors open to the rear. It's all to maximize cargo space and ease of loading/unloading. The lack of a side pillar means you have more room to maneuver a stubborn object in or out of the car, and they claim you can fit a surfboard in it with the seats folded down.

I personally have a hard time believing this thing can really get 30-35 miles per gallon, considering its best rating is 21 city/26 highway. If I found any SUV that could actually get 35 miles per gallon, I would retire my vendetta against them. I might even buy one.
