SUV or Souped up Mini van?

Pros: It looks pretty good from the outside.
Cons: Unconfortable seating and no headroom for the tall ones.
The Bottom Line: Save your money and make sure you test drive on all types of terrain!

It looks like an SUV on the outside, but once you step inside the 2004 Dodge Durango SLT you get a minivan.

My Husband bought my Durango for me mainly because we have three children and with the third row seating, he thought it would be a great ride.

This 2004 Dodge Durango SLT offers a v8 engine with four wheel drive. Its a four door with a very large hatch. My Durango was only able to get about 13 to 14 miles per gallon here in West Virginia, and that was highway miles.

The Durango even with its V8 engine did not offer much on power. Going up any hill, it felt like it was dragging even though the engine was completely tuned. For towing again not much power. I hauled a trailer from Missouri to West Virginia and had one heck of time once I got to the mountains of Kentucky. On flat roads it pulled great. As for the four wheel drive the Durango did do pretty good in that department. Living in West Virginia there are many hills and when they get covered in snow and Ice you want to be covered. I can give the Durango credit here. It did handle very well in snowy conditions.

The inside of the Durango was nothing to cheer about. It looked good but that was it. This one came with leather seats, wood panel trim and a built in 6 disc cd changer. We had dual front airbags, automatic drivers seat adjustment and daytime running lamps. This Durango also came with the regular options of am/fm stereo cassette and a/c.

The back seat was a split fold with a fold down arm rest in the middle. The third row seat also folded down so that you could fold down all backs seats. But it by far was not even close to being flat. This made it difficult to transport certain items and to make the most use out of your cargo area.

I would not recommend the Dodge Durango 2004 simply because it is not worth it to pay that much money for something to be uncomfortable in. I am a tall person and I had no head room and there was little leg room in the back for the kids, so adults would be very uncomfortable. The gas mileage was not that great and personally with the look of the 2004, you might be better off just to buy a mini-van.
