The 2004 Jaguar X-type 3.0L AWD is a great entry level luxury car but a little bit pricey. This car is comparable to the BMW 330xi and the Mercedes C-class, but cost a little bit less. The Jaguar that I purchased back in 2004 was fully loaded for a little over $38,000. I currently have 53,000 miles on the vehicle and no major issues have occurred.
The interior of the vehicle is superior to the BMW 330xi and Mercedes. There is more wood paneling and the car makes you happy to look at it. The 3.0L engine puts out about 227-hp but with the weight of the car makes performance rather normal. I would rate performance in between the BMW and the Mercedes. The AWD drive handles very well on the ice, but the low clearance can have issues with small snow berms.
Potential problems for the vehicle is the navigation system. I opted for the navigation system and found out later that the Garmin ones you can buy at a store for a far lower price are better. In order to update the navigation system you have to buy the new DVD which cost $450. If you plan on keeping the vehicle dealer maintained prepare to shell out the big bucks. The 50,000 mile maintenance cost me $1,150. The price is rather normal for a car in the luxury car class. Overall the Jaguar X-type is a good buy and people who buy the car feel good about driving a beautiful machine.
