Pros: styling, ride
Cons: interior quality, gas mileage
The 2005 Ford Escape is a nice SUV. The problem is that these Escapes are beginning to look dated, and the revisions Ford made to them aren't enough to compete with the competition such as the Honda CR-V, Toyota Rav4, Kia Sportage, and so on. The styling is nice, and the Ford Escape looks like a nice SUV for the money. The inside is where all the disapointments start. The Steering wheel has tilt, but no telescopic, which is surprising seeing as how this isn't a cheap SUV by any means. the dashboard is a hard cheap plastic, which looks horrible! the guages are all small, and theres nothing nice about the interior. The door panels are all thin and plastic, the seat fabric is of low quality, etc. Overall, the interior of this SUV is lackluster and shows why Ford is doing so horrible these days. Interior aside, this SUV rides great. the V-6 engine allows QUICK acceleration and and a smooth ride. The transmission seems a bit sluggish and can't keep up with the engine. The handling of the Escape is great, and the ride is good. This car is HORRIBLE on gasoline, with an average tank only getting me about 260 miles (highway), however, I do have four wheel drive, which takes more gas. The 4x4 is automatic, which is good becuase it conserves gas, but bad becuase you can't put it into 4 wheel drive, the computer does. Overall the 2005 Ford Escape is a good SUV that needs a few changes to really compete with the SUV competition.
