Re: Where is the Montego in this Review? (Reply to this comment)

Good point. I was referring to the fact that the driving evaluation was based on driving both cars, but I should commment on the differences between the two.

Where is the Montego in this Review? (Reply to this comment)
by slbroug
Your review never mentions the Montego again after stating that the review covers both. Having just purchased the Montego I expected more about the better styling touches in the Montego than the (ultra-bland) Five Hundred. Sure, they are mechanically the same, but the styling in the Montego set it apart in ways that are more distinguishing. HID headlamps, LED tailights, two-tome leather and more of a grill are reason to visit Mercury if total value for the money spent matter.

Ford 500 SEL AWD (Reply to this comment)
by designeraccd
I traded my '03 Taurus and '02 Civic LX for a new AWD 500 on Friday after demo driving it in a snowstorm on Thursday....that drive sold the car. As an Industrial Designer from Art Center (J. May is one of our illustrious grads) I am less than impressed by the last generation Audi/Passat looks that do not have the fine sense of proportion those cars show due to the vaunted "command" seating positioning. My car's interior, even with the optional leather, (seating wear surfaces only) does not look or feel luxurious, IMhO. The seats are reasonably supportive and comfy for a car of this ilk. I'm a 95% male, theoretically the "top" to design to and she does fit me very well.
However while driving home last night in icy whiteout conditions through northern Indiana the car started shining! Other cars, trucks and SUVs were going every direction except forward, but my AWD 500 continued on its way with a minimum of drama. A sports sedan she isn't, but given my drive last night the car is a very competant and roomy sedan. Of course for fun driving I'll stay with my Miata! DFO

Re: True Delta (Reply to this comment)
by mkaresh, in Cars & Motorsports
I'm aiming for speed. I've been very happy with response times so far--and I haven't even optimized the code yet (very ugly in places). Much faster than anything else out there. Faster than the same program on my desktop with a 1.4Ghz CPU, in fact.
A tip: to price a single car, enter the same vehicle in both slots.
I have two main audiences:
1. Shoppers trying to get a clear idea of the price difference between two alternatives. I've seen people roaming lots looking at window stickers for this purpose--which is easily misleading.
2. Reviewers. I hate it when reviewers simply compare "as tested" or base prices. Which is about 99.9% of the time they compare prices. Maybe this will fix that. Once I've got all popular models in the database I plan to email a bunch of them.
The site will probably be a bit less terse and more attractive in the future. Right now I'm focusing on refining the algorithm and filling the database.

True Delta (Reply to this comment)

Good review Michael, as expected.
I poked around your True Delta site and it was easy to use, although it would be nice to get just a bit more explanation of what the goal is of comparing two cars. I think I figured it out but the site has a "terse" feel that could be made a little friendlier. I like the fast response, though. And the ability to compare cars with different standard feature sets is excellent.
Good luck with the Web site!
