I went into the local Chrysler dealership because I had a special offer to get a 50.00 gift card to my choice of merchant just to test drive a Towne and Country, so I went for it.
When I got into the van, the first thing I noticed is that it's almost exactly identical to the Caravan except it has a few extra features.
This thing has the "stow and go" seats. All you have to do to have an open area for cargo is lift up a compartment on the floor, hit a latch and the seats all fold into the floor. I like that feature because ya never know when you'll need space for whatever situation pops up. The first thing I thought of was that there's enough room for two people to put down some blankets for some heavy duty camping action! (You thought I was gonna say sex,, didn't ya!)
This thing would be great for taking on a camping trip because for one it has tinted windows in the back, which keeps sunlight out so you can sleep well past sunrise.
After being shown all the nice features of this van, I was off for a test drive. The first thing I noticed was that it handled nicely for being such a large vehicle. I was told it was because the van had a wide wheel base. The van has room to seat up to seven people.
Some of the options on this van include,
Electroluminescent gauges are standard on Limited, available on Touring.
Available UConnect® uses Bluetooth® technology to offer hands-free cell phone operation.
Overhead console (standard on Touring and available on LX and short wheelbase models) comes with trip computer, lamps, storage bin, switches for power sliding doors, power liftgate (included with power sliding door) and HomeLink®, which can be programmed to operate your garage door and perform other household functions.
Overhead console (standard on Limited, available on Touring) comes with Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC), trip computer, lamps, compass/temperature display, power sliding door switches, power liftgate switch, HomeLink® and storage bin (included with Leather Interior Group).
Town & Country's three-zone manual temperature control features separate temperature controls for driver, front-, and rear-seat passengers that allows them to set the temperature to their comfort. (This is a GREAT feature for my needs, because I'm always freezing and my roommate is always boiling hot, so I don't boil the poor guy out when I crank the heat!
You can also get one with a power moon roof. I like that feature!
You have a choice of a 3.3 Litre or a 3.8 V6 motor. If you want my opinion, I'd opt for the 3.8 because from experience, the smaller motors seem to strain a bit when you have the van fill with cargo or people. Another thing, from experience with other vehicles over the years, if you can opt for the disk/drum brakes, go for it! 4 wheel disk brakes wear out MUCH faster than the disk/drum brakes and they cost more to replace.
During the test drive I noticed that while getting on the freeway that the pick up on the van is somewhat sluggish. This is mostly because they put a little motor in a big vehicle. It's like trying to have a chihuahua pull people around for a hay ride! (Yo quero no power!)
Overall it's a nice van. I'll probably buy the 2006 Towne & Country (Unfortunatly when I do it'll be the year 2019 or 2020!) So folks,, if you buy one,, PLEASE take good care of it so poor schmucks like me can buy a nice vehicle when it's like 13 to 14 years old and under $500.00
