We got the Dodge Durango about seven months ago after trading in our Mercedes ML430. Trust me I caught a lot of flack over that! However with a new baby to go with three other kids the ML just didn't meet our needs anymore. I admit it is hard to go from a luxury vehicle to a Dodge but I didn't want to hand out big bucks right now. So we got a three year lease and by the time it ends the two oldest will be gone and I will probably go back to a smaller more luxurious car.
I love the roominess of the Durango. Ours seats eight and the third row is comfortable even for our 15 & 18 year olds. We are taking a road trip this summer so we'll see how they feel then but around town it is fine. There is not a ton of room behind the third row but I can actually fit our full size stroller behind it if I stand it up. The seats in the second row recline for comfort and flip all the way out of the way for the 3rd row passengers to easily get out. Ours came with the entertainment dvd system and an alpine speaker system which are both great.
I would say having runnings boards is a must. I see some without them and don't think I would be able to do that. I have a baby who I have no trouble at all lifting in and out of his car seat. I do wish it had latch anchors in the center seat.
There is plenty of storage space and power adapters in the front center console. The interior finshings are a little cheap. I have "leather" seats that seem more vinyl to me. We have the SLT version and I do know the limited version has nicer seats.
Our has the V8 HEMI which is very unkind as far as gas mileage but I expected that. We do not tow anything such as trailers or boats so that probably is more power than we need. This is a big vehicle even though it is listed as mid size. That being said it handles well and I haven't had parking problems. Sometimes I have to adjust a couple of time backing out but I always keep the car size in mind when choosing a parking spot. We live in Michigan and it handles excellently on the road in the winter.
The exterior look isn't my favorite as far as SUV'S go but the features and the price were right so we choose this. People ask if I miss my Mercedes, of course I do. I can make do with no real complaints about this Durango though.
