An ugly baby that shouldn't have been born (Reply to this comment)
by hashlander
I got a Nitro 4x4 SLT from my company a month ago (previously had a 300) and have been sorely disappointed...emphasis on sorely. The seats are uncomfortable and badly positioned, there is no "dead pedal" to rest your foot on, the wheel doesn't telescope out, and I bang my head everytime I enter the vehicle. It's very difficult to get into a comfortable driving position in the Nitro. Bear in mind I'm only 5'10" and 155 lbs, so this is inexcusable in an SUV--I could understand if I were a basketball player. Aside from bad ergonomics, the quality of materials is visibly cheap. It's also woefully underpowered. If you're going to get a Nitro, don't get anything other than the RT because the cheaper models are so underpowered you will be stuck in the right lane when traveling uphill(especially if 4wd is engaged)--grandmas will pass you in their Lincolns. Don't buy it...take your money elsewhere.

Nitro review (Reply to this comment)
by AirJunky
I read this review before I purchased my Nitro, and visited the website. As a result of my registration, I got spammed by the site owner (and author of this review) to the point that I had to point blank TELL HIM to stop emailing me.
That said, I've now owned my Nitro for about 3 months. I am 6'1" & don't have nearly the problems getting into the Nitro as the author. I just dropped the seat a bit & it was no different than my 98 Dakota. I also saw very little difference in the quality of the Nitro interior & other Mopar interiors I've owned (Dakota, Neon, Pacifica). It's no Audi, but it is durable, 2 tone, and gets compliments from others regarding features, how roomy it is, how quiet the Nitro rides, how well the heat & AC do, the stereo, etc.
I have the 3.7 liter motor, and we have a short freeway onramp that requires a 20 mph to 70 mph acceleration. The Nitro does it easily & confidently, even pulling a 2200 lb ATV trailer. I also have the 3.5 liter in a Pacifica, and frankly their about the same. Although the Pacifica lugs a bit pulling the trailer up a hill compared to the Nitro.
The point is, go check one yourself. Because the review above is garbage.

Nitro (Reply to this comment)

I have to say I'm somewhat dissapointed
After seeing the Nitro for the first time at the Portland auto show, and also on the internet, I thought the Nitro would be one of the best new cars for '07.
But after reading your review, it sounds like Chrysler is trying to cut corners with the interior, and that's half the vehicle to most people, so hopefully within a few years the interior's will be improved and of higher quality.

Sounds disappointing. (Reply to this comment)

"Inside Chrysler continues its quest to discover just how cheap an interior can be made to look and feel."
Well put. A case could be made for their interiors feeling "tough"--presumably what they had in mind--if it weren't for all the thin, hollow touch points.
Dodge and Chrysler have been doing bad steering lately, too, a strange reversal of the trend from the mid-'90s to the early 2000s.
