We traded in our 2003 Yukon XL for the 2007 Expedition EL. It is a very smooth ride. Beautiful interior with the chrome and wood grain. DVD system. Sirius radio for first 6 months. No issues. Great truck. In reality...not great gas mileage with the price of gas. However, I am rarely more than 20 miles from home.
It is a great SUV. Back seats fold down with the simple push of a button. Second row also folds down manually to the same level as the third row seat. Can fit a house in there! In the Yukon, I had to remove the 400 lb third row seat myself. That was fun.
Ok so engine wise. It is a V8 5.4L engine. I am not mechanical. If it has four wheels and gets me from A to B, then I am a happy girl.
Exterior: I have noticed lately that a lot of the SUV's coming out almost looks the same. The Expedition EL that I have is black with chrome accents. Such as the door handles and the roof rack. The stock wheels are Perelli. Thank goodness, they got rid of the Firestone.
Comforts: Most of the seats recline. The middle seat in the second row even moves back and forth. I do not know if the third row seat reclines. Everything can be done with one touch of a button to fold down the back row.
Handling is great. It has the Roll Stability Control.
This SUV has all the added features for the kids. DVD system and headphones. Six disc in dash CD player. It has the heated/cooled seats. On the freeway doing 80MPH, feels so smooth. Going over railroad tracks around here, you barely feel it. Unless the tracks are off kilter.
The EL is the extended length. Basically the same length as the suburban and/or the Yukon XL. I believe they do have a regular length 07 Expedition.
I can also fit three car seats in the second row. This is great for when I have my child as well as my niece and nephew with me. Power front seats. I think the only thing I would change on this SUV is the grill. The standard plastic black grill is cheesy. We will put on a nice billet grill on it.
The very rear windows are controlled up front to open outward by about an inch or so. Moon/Sun roof. The rear also has an adjustable shelf system. Zero complaints on this truck. We are very happy with it.
This vehicle has the reverse sensors. If you are backing up and listening to music at the same time, the sensors lower the radio volume so you can hear the beeps from the sensors. As you are getting closer to an object, the beeps get more frequent. If you are approaching an object very close, it is more of a solid tone. I think all SUV and Pick-Ups should come with this feature. Its not recommended that you just rely on the sensors when backing up. I have noticed that sometimes the beeps come on even if there is not anything behind me.
Another added feature is having the radio volume, the fan speed and the air temp controls on the steering wheel.
You can also preset all of your personal comforts into one button. Therefore, when you get in, put your seat in the position you like, the radio stations you listen to and even the temperature you are comfortable in, then program that into either Driver 1 or two. Those buttons you will find on the left side of the drivers seat near the seat adjustment buttons. Therefore, each time you put your key in the ignition, it will reset itself to whichever driver gets in. I believe it does it by the key. If not you may have to press the driver button you have programmed your information.
If you are short (or taller than most) there is a button to move the gas and brake pedals back and forth to accommodate you.
The console is a very nice storage area as well. It has 2 cup holders near the front for driver and passenger, then 2 more cup holders near the back of the console for the 2nd row passengers.
The features I like:
V8 engine. It has a lot of power. The only thing that I do not like about it is the hesitation from stop signs and signal lights. Most Ford's are cold blooded. (Except for the Mustang GT we have) I have noticed when I leave from a stop sign the truck seems to look back at me and say "Huh?" It is a very heavy vehicle. My husband's F150 did this as well. However, after the hesitation is has very good pick up and go.
The brakes work very well. A lot better than my Yukon XL did. I had to use them abruptly one day when another driver tried to make a left turn in front of me. I was going approximately 40 MPH. Now, the anti lock brakes feel very weird when you have to use them. I did not think it was going to stop, but it did. The truck did not burn rubber or squeal the tires. It pulsated to a full and complete stop.
The steering is phenomenal. I think leaving the stock tires on has a lot to do with that. It makes a very nice U turn.
A small side note: Make sure after filling the tank with gas that you tighten the gas cap until it clicks 3 or more times. We had an issue with this within the first week of owning this vehicle. The engine light came on. I took it down to the dealership and they informed me that if the gas cap does not click three or more times that air will get into the lines and cause the engine light to come on. Ever since then, knowing what we know now, we have not had any issues with the engine light.
The A/C and heater work very well. Living in the desert you need to have A/C in your car. In 100+ degree heat, any car you get into, it takes a few minutes to get the A/C to cool. Although we have not experienced that heat yet, it has been quite warm out here and the A/C has worked fantastic.
The truck I have is equipped with the Dual Climate control. The driver and passenger can have a different temperature. Along side of those controls, there is the control for the rear of the truck. You can also check on the temperature outside. I was expecting this feature to be in the rear view mirror as it was in my Yukon XL. However, I have to press a button to see the outside temp.
The heated and cooled seats are awesome! I had the heated seats in my Yukon XL, but it never had the cooled seats. The heater in the seats takes a few minutes to warm up. By the time I am around the block, I can feel them getting warmer. The heat is on your rear and on your lower back. The cooled seats are my favorite. It does feel a little odd though. To me it feels like I had sat in a puddle of water. For some reason it takes a little longer for the cooled seats to kick on than it does for the heat.
The control for both of these features is right below the A/C controls.
I cannot live without the DVD system. The 8" screen is not the biggest one out there, but it is still a great feature. The process can get complicated. When you want to watch a DVD, the stereo has to be on. If everyone in the truck wants to hear the DVD then just turn up the volume. If the driver would rather the kids use the headphones (2 included), this is where we had trouble.
Turn the stereo on as well as press play on the DVD system. Make sure the headphones are on the same channel as the DVD system. Channel A or B. You will find this switch on the headphones as well as the controls near the DVD screen. Then on the left side of the screen, there are about five or six other buttons. You need to press the headphone button. That will then make the sound of the movie only on the headphones. You can now use the stereo any way you like it.
When the headphones are in use, the stereo automatically changes the balance of the sound to the front. No use in the rear speakers being on if no one is listening to them.
The sound system is ok. It has the Audiophile speakers. They are all right. No great shakes. The bass sounds very good though. It does sound better on Satellite radio and Cd though. Regular radio does not sound as good.
