Dealers should not be pushing the non-turbo cars over list at this point. Around Detroit they are starting to pile up on dealer lots.

Excellent Review (Reply to this comment)
by youngdoog
I've been looking for an informed, non-biased review of the Saturn Sky, and this is it. I went to the Saturn dealer just yesterday, and found that they had a $3,000 markup covered up as a "security package" consisting of etched windows and such foolishness. So the price went over $30,000 easily. Even the salesman smirked when I asked him about the markup. I own a 2005 Mazda turbo that runs like a top, and only cost $21,000, but must confess that the Sky has caught my eye. However, this review has alerted me to the real concern-Not just looks, but reliability and performance, which are still "under review" with the Sky. I really hope the Sky is not just a GM pretty car disguised as a Cavalier convertible, but just neat transportation, like the Corvette.

GM is trying to turn the corner on their past-I've owned horrendous Camaros, and believe it or not, the worst car ever produced on God's Green Earth/Moon, the Chevy Vega-but I do hope that GM/Saturn is now capable of building a car that is stylish and dependable. Like my first wife.

Where is the power lock button? (Reply to this comment)
by skyman07
There is no power lock button on this car, the locks are programmable to where they either unlock the driver's door, both doors or neither door when you shut off the engine...I don't know what you were pushing but it definately was not the power lock button...
I have had my Sky for 4 weeks and have put over 3700 miles on it and I absolutely love the car, you get used to the placement of some of the controls, the heater and Air controls are very easy to operate and they both work wonderfully.. Putting the top up and down is no big deal after you get a routine set up...I can have it down in about 15 seconds, and up in less than 30...
I recommend you buy one if you can find one...

Re: SKY and Solstice (Reply to this comment)

Just took another look at your Solstice review. Excellent, as usual. The main places we differ are the source of decent ride quality--I think it's the shocks and tires--and ergonomics. With the latter, I found even the primary controls poorly located. There's a simple explanation for this--aren't you over six feet?

SKY and Solstice (Reply to this comment)

I haven't driven the SKY yet, but it sounds like the driving experience mirrors that of the Solstice. Our impressions of the handling were just about identical: compared to the MX-5, the GM cars feel planted, secure, and maybe even a little over-tired.

I have to say, if I were buying an affordable roadster, I think I'd take one of the GMers. Their stiffer platforms and more-settled steering are more in line with my priorities.

Maybe because they need every sale they can get?

Great Review! (Reply to this comment)

Another excellent review, Mike.
Almost makes one wonder why, with the Solstice and the Sky destined to be hot sellers this year, they feel the need to take on the Mustang.

Thanks for the heads-up on those typos. Not only is the SKY out, but it's already sold out. This dealer was no longer taking orders. In this context, it was especially nice of them to keep a car for test drives.

I didn't realize the SKY was out already. For some reason I had the impression it was still a few months away. I got to see one last month at the local auto show, and like you, I prefer its styling to the MX-5 and the Solstice. Wasn't able to check out the interior, although it doesn't sound like I missed out on a whole bunch.

Just so you know, it looks like you made a few little slips with the names in your review:
"Could the new Pontiac Solstice and Pontiac SKY be any better?"
"Enough fiddling about. Does the Solstice have the moves of a sports car, or not?"
