I bought the Camry Hybrid in July '06 so I have had plenty of time to put it to the test. So...
This is the best car I have ever had. The ride is very comfortable, it handles like a sports car, it has plenty of power, AND the gas mileage is terrific.
It took a while (about 15000 miles) for the gas mileage to increase above what the sticker said. Now I am getting in the mid/upper 40s. But this is typical of all other Toyotas I have owned - the mpg gradually increases as you put more miles on it. I once averaged 62 mpg on a long, almost non-stop, trip.
The navigation system works great, however, you have to be stopped to enter a destination and some of the information is not exactly correct. The sound system makes you think you are in a concert hall - just don't crank it up too much - it is very loud if you do. One thing I like is that if you have the sound turned up a little more, it can't be heard on the outside, even with the door open.
Since the batteries for the hybrid system had to go somewhere, they take up some of the trunk room. It is not that big a problem though, how many people travel around with a full trunk all the time?
I wish Toyota would have put better OEM tires on the car. They used Bridgestone, which is also Firestone. I have had Firestone before and they are total junk. I changed them to Michelin the first chance I had.
I don't really have any complaints about the car other than I hate when other people say hybrids are too expensive or don't have any power or the batteries won't last long, etc. The fact is this car is saving me money in gas usage, plus I got the tax credit which really brought it down to the cost of other Camrys. This car really has the power; I can "punch it" when I need to and leave everybody behind. There are Toyota Priuses that still have the original batteries since the late '90s. By the time I have to replace mine they will probably have better and cheaper ones.
To conclude, if you want a nice family car that is a hybrid and you want something that is going to last a long time, buy the Camry Hybrid. You won't be disappointed!
