I purchased the 2007 Camry seven months ago and it's a great car. Not a perfect car, but a VERY GOOD car. Mileage will depend on the type of driver that you are, the type of terrain that you drive on, and the type of traffic that you're in.
I've found that the Camry does not have as much torque or pickup as most other cars. In addition, new drivers will be glued to watching the Camry's fuel efficiency gauge that shows your average miles per gallon as you accelerate. This encourages the driver to "gradually step on the gas," rather than performing "jack rabbit starts."
Living on a mountain top, I only average 17 miles a gallon going up the mountain each day. But once I get down into town, I easily average 40 miles or more per gallon. I know drivers who live in flat areas that get more than 40 miles per gallon.
Toyota claims that one of the best driving conditions which allows you to get the best gas mileage is in city driving. What they are referring to is when you are driving between city blocks where you can gradually accelerate and coast to the next stop light. Coasting not only switches the car to the "electric" mode, but also recharges the hybrid battery. Staying in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic will drain the battery, causing the gas engine to start and lowers your gas mileage.
Open freeway driving is also fuel efficient. Once you reach your crusing speed, just let off on the gas pedal a bit and your car will be attaining excellent gas mileage.
Although the brochure says that there is a 17 gallon tank, the gas gauge bottoms out after using a little over 13 gallons of gas. I guess the 3-4 gallon buffer is a safety net so that the user doesn't run out of gas.
My Camry has the keyless ignition which I love. I don't have to take the keys out of my pocket. I touch the driver's door handle which unlocks the car, I sit in the seat, close the door, strap up my seat belt, and press the start button. The car starts up electronically, and I'm driving away in a second.
The bluetooth wireless capability is convenient, but the microphone and voice recognition is average at best. The voice recognition often misinterprets my voice commands, offering me a preprogrammed number that I did not ask for. Once the call is connected, the bluetooth feature works flawlessly, is clear and the microphone is great.
Quiet Ride? When in electric mode, the engine is completely silent, however the insulation of outside sounds by the car's windows is very good, but not excellent. A Lexus' insulation is quieter, but I'm satisfied with the Camry's.
