Pros: Becoming a little less of a slave to OPEC.
Cons: Very, very few complaints.
After driving a small SUV for 4 years and getting about 21 MPG and contributing more and more of my paycheck to OPEC, I decided to do something about it. I seriously considered most cars that get higher MPG and heard all the arguments about the high cost of the hybrids. In the end, I bought a basic Black Prius for $21,000. I really, really love it when people exclaim that I must have paid a lot for it and I'll probably never recoup the extra premium I paid to own a hybrid. Typically, they have paid more for their car than I did for my Prius. I bought this car to save on gas. I commute back and forth from work 110 miles a day and I am now getting at least 50 MPG, in SoCal. This is freeway "slow and go" rush-hour traffic. I don't have a back-up camera or a GPS system or leather seats. I am very safe with airbags everywhere, the stereo works great, power everything. There are only 2 things that I will change soon: windows need to be tinted more and a rear view mirror that better dims the headlights behind me. Other than that, I love this car.
