Re: Is this a car review or an ad for your site? (Reply to this comment)

Yada yada yada.....
Mike always writes well informed and detailed reviews. Add his personal automotive research and obvious "thing" for cars, and you get honest, useful information. In the end, it's his opinion, not yours.
And yes, I can believe that C&D reviewers get barely more than an hour or two to check out a car sometimes. Remember, they have to divvy the driving up between at least 4 drivers.

And to all you who diss this man, he does a great service on this site. Not only are his reviews top notch, but his supplimental website is free for all to use. It isn't like he makes money off of you or me (although there may be advertising dollars.) So lay off already.

Perhaps you should spend as much time on your own reviews as you did on this comment. From the ratings they've been receiving, they could use the attention.
This is a car review. I created the site expressly to provide information that could not practically be provided in these reviews. It's just amazing how much people can complain about things I put a lot of time into that they receive for free.
I cannot control how much time you FEEL you spent reading about my site. Those sections are clearly marked, and they are not a large percentage of the total.
Base prices can change half a dozen times a year--I know, because I update pricing for my site monthly, and it's a lot of work.
If you don't think my test drive was adequate, then where is my review lacking? What additional insights might I have had if I owned the car? Point me to an owner review on this site that provides such insights. I'm sure they're here, but they're not common.
If we compare my reviews to real owner reviews, rather than the ideal owner reviews in your head, they stand up quite well.

Not to be mean, but it feels to me that I spent as much time reading an ad for your site than I did reading about the car. Also, doing a review on a car without any pricing info unless you go to your website really wastes the time of the reader. You say they fluctuate too rapidly to post it? How often does the base price of a vehicle change in a model year?
I think I would give more credit to someone that actually OWNS the car, not someone that took a 10 minute test drive. That really does not give you enough time to evaluate a vehicle, although that is what the salesman would like you to believe! Do you think a writer for Car and Driver writes a review after spending less than an hour with a car?

The sedan has a longer wheelbase than the hatch, but I'm not sure if that's the same as what you're talking about.

Just thought I'd mention that in other countries, Toyota sells the Yaris in a standard and stretch body length. Do they do that in the U.S. too??

Great review. I've been trying to get my hands on one of these, as we have something in common. I couldn't believe the almost hate mail I received when I wrote an epinion on the thankfully replaced ECHO. Its good to see that the love was spread around.
