Gatorade Thirst Quencher- Orange 591ml (20 oz)
Written: Apr 6, 2012
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Replenishes electrolytes and fluids lost from perspiration or illness.
Cons:High sodium and sugar content.
The Bottom Line: Recommended to replace lost fluids and electrolytes. Caution is recommended for those with health conditions because of high sodium and sugar content.
Whether working out, playing sports, or recovering from an illness, it is important to keep your body hydrated. Drinking lots of water can be beneficial, but sports drinks such as Gatorade replace lost electrolytes in addition to water lost during perspiration or illness.
Gatorade is a favorite drink around my house, and although not my favorite, Orange Gatorade is one that I drink from time to time. The 20 ounce size is perfect to grab and go in the car or anywhere.
When plain water doesn't quench my thirst, a bottle of Gatorade does. It comes in a variety of flavors including orange, lemonade, xtremo citrus cooler, frost, rain, lemon-lime, and several others. Most of them are pretty good with a slightly sweet taste that isn't too sweet. Kids and adults will enjoy this satisfying drink.
Not surprisingly the main ingredient is water, which is one of the best thirst quenchers, and one of the best hydrators out there. Aside from the water, the majority of the other ingredients in this drink consist of various sugars and salts. Gatorade contains no real fruit juice.
One word of caution though is that even though Gatorade's 270 mg sodium content is a great way to replenish lost fluids, less active people should use caution not to drink too much of this beverage as excessive sodium content can cause a variety of problems including swelling, water retention and hypertension.
Despite the high sodium content, I recommend Gatorade to those who are losing a lot of fluids whether through perspiration or illness as long as they have no other health problems that may be worsened by consuming sodium in these amounts. For anyone else, I recommend that Gatorade is consumed in moderation to avoid sodium related problems.
