George_Chabot's Full Review: Stanley 25ft MaxSteel Tape Measure
Stanley Max Steel 25 ft Tape Measure
Everybody sooner or later probably needs a tape measure to do projects. No, this is not a tape measure like your mother used to take your measurements with. This is a steel tape measure (same name) like a carpenter or handyman uses to measure size of rooms, boards, plywood, etc.
The unit comes in a plastic housing that Stanley calls "impact resistant" with the steel tape coiled up inside it. The tape will extend up to 25' and lock using the locking button for measuring distances. The locking button is conveniently located where you can easily flick in on with the housing held normally in your hand. When you slide off the locking button the blade (tape) will reel back up inside the case in response to the spring loaded reel.
The blade or tape is 1 inch wide and is yellow colored with black markings in inch denominations. The color makes the markings easier to read in low light conditions like you often find when trying to do a project. There is a plated hook riveted at the end of the blade so you can measure by hooking the blade over an edge and pulling the tape taut for more accurate measuring.
Another significant feature is called "Blade Armor" where the first 6 feet of the blade are coated with themoplastic for durability and reduced breakage. The entire blade is coated with Mylar to make it slippery and to extend the blade and marking life. Probably the best feature is the cross curved blade where the first 8 feet will stand out straight allowing you to measure things by yourself instead of enlisting a helper as you often do with other tape measures.
The scale is denominated in sixteenths of an inch and special markings are provided for stud centers if you are building some walls.
This tool is homeowner grade. There are also professional grade or contractor grade models available that are more durable but they cost more, too. For the price of this tool you are only going to get a tool that will serve you well in your home projects but cannot be expected to be used day after day and abused like it might in a professional setting.
I have one and recommend this tape measure for home use.
